Summary
The Instructional Technology Division of the Georgia Department of Education announces the FY10 Title II, Part D ARRA Competitive Grant for eTextbooks pending final State Board of Education approval on June 10, 2010.

The FY10 Title II, Part D ARRA Competitive Grant for eTextbooks is designed to investigate the necessary resources, implementation strategies, level of teacher professional development, academic impact, and potential cost savings involved in creating a self-funding model replacing traditional textbooks with eTextbooks. This grant is also designed to identify effective eTextbook materials and providers. Through the FY10 Title II, Part D ARRA eTextbook grant, five high schools will be provided with netbooks and digital textbook materials for all students and teachers.

Eligible LEAs may apply to support any eligible high school with a student population of approximately 1,000 students.

The primary goals of the FY10 Title II, Part D ARRA Competitive Grant for eTextbooks are to:

  1. Develop a self-funding model that utilizes current, engaging, and cost efficient alternatives to hard copy textbooks and provides a model that may be leveraged across all school districts in Georgia.
  2. Provide teacher professional development in the use of digital content to differentiate instruction and improve student engagement.
  3. Increase student technology literacy by providing students educational opportunities to use digital tools.
  4. Increase parent engagement through training sessions demonstrating the purpose and use of eTextbooks at home and school.
