Description of Duties: |
Under the general to limited supervision of the Director of Governmental Affairs, provides professional level support to Georgia Department of Education leadership in the areas of legislation, communications, and external affairs. Duties include, but are not limited to, coordinating all activities for the State School Superintendent’s teacher, principal, and student advisory groups; responding to constituents referred to the Georgia Department of Education by Members of the General Assembly; tracking all proposed education-related legislation; developing reports and providing information in response to General Assembly data requests; representing the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) at education-related committee and subcommittee meetings of the General Assembly; testifying in subcommittee meetings; serving as main GaDOE point-of-contact for the General Assembly; assisting the Communications Division with creating presentations for the State School Superintendent and writing/developing press releases and other communications materials; conducting research on legislative proposals and project-related assignments, and assisting the Director of Governmental Affairs with presentations at and meetings with external organizations (e.g. Regional Educational Service Agencies, professional education associations, etc.). |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, education, public administration, or related area OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business, education, public administration, or related area and two years of related experience |
Preferred Qualifications: |
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
• Experience with the Georgia General Assembly legislative process
• Experience tracking and analyzing legislation
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work with a variety of agencies and individuals
• Demonstrated understanding of current education legislative issues |
Salary/Benefits: |
Pay grade 14 – Annual salary range $32,000.00 (minimum) to $56,724.32 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training and work experience, and available funding. Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance, annual/sick leave, and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers’ Retirement. |
