Program/Unit: State Schools/Office of Policy and External Affairs
Description of Duties: Provides a comprehensive educational program to meet the needs of students who are visually impaired or multi-disabled in a residential school setting. Responsibilities include assessing and documenting students' educational needs to develop and implement appropriate instructional plans; developing appropriate instructional materials; and utilizing acceptable and innovative instructional techniques and practices. These positions will teach visually impaired/multi-disabled students in Early Childhood (P-5) or Middle Schools (4-8).
Minimum Qualifications: Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Georgia Teacher Certificate in Visually Impaired. Must have knowledge of Alternative/Augmentative Communication (A/AC) and basic understanding of the use of computer technology for multi-disabled learners.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess the following: • Master’s degree in Visually Impaired (K-12) • Background in visual disabilities, mental retardation, behavior disorders, or interrelated special education • Classroom experience with visually impaired or multi-disabled children • Elementary or Secondary academic certification • Experience working with visually impaired or special needs students
Salary/Benefits: Salary based on years of experience and certification. This is a 10-month position paid on a 12-month basis. Salary will be based on the number of days worked. Benefit options include life, disability, dental, vision, and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers Retirement.
