Description of Duties: Provides a comprehensive educational of instruction to hearing impaired students. Responsibilities include assessing and documenting students' communication skills, functional academic skills, independent living skills, and educational/behavioral development; identifying appropriate individualized educational goals; developing and implementing instructional lesson plans; maintaining documentation of student progress; and utilizing appropriate instructional techniques based on individual student needs.
Minimum Qualifications: Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification in the area of Special Education Deaf Education AND AND High School Math. Sign language proficiency at the "Intermediate Level" as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Instrument is required. Note: Candidates selected for employment must meet the "Highly Qualified" provision of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Note: Must submit required certification documentation with resume and cover letter or application.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following: • Possesses or eligible to obtain Georgia Teacher Certification in the area of Interrelated Special Education or Learning Disabilities • Three years of experience teaching students with hearing impairments • Sign language proficiency at the “Advanced Level” as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Instrument
Salary/Benefits: This is a 10-month position (200-days) paid on 12-month basis according to the Georgia Teacher Salary Schedule; salary based on teaching certification and creditable years of experience. Benefit options include life, disability, dental, vision, and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers Retirement.
