Draft Teacher and Principal Induction Guidelines
The Georgia Department of Education, with support and collaboration from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, has been working with a statewide Induction Task Force since June 2011 to develop a high-level draft of induction guidelines for teacher and for principals. The statewide Induction Task Force is a cross-disciplinary team of fifty members that includes teachers, instructional coaches, early career and experienced principals, district leaders, university faculty, education organization staff, and state agency leaders. As part of the Race To The Top initiative, this Task Force utilized national and international research, model programs, and Georgia district experiences to develop the draft teacher and principal induction guidelines. Their work on these drafts will continue to be informed through the 2011-2012 school year by public comment and work with the Race To The Top districts. The guidelines will be finalized in Summer 2012. The purpose of these guidelines is to inform state policy and development in the areas of teacher and principal induction. One aspect of this project is a focus on recruiting, retaining, and supporting effective teachers and principals. The draft induction guidelines are now available for public comment through the links below. Please share your feedback on the draft induction guidelines from October 1 through December 30, 2011. You may send your feedback to induction@doe.k12.ga.us.
